Music May be Inborn

Here is an interesting blog posting on research being done into our relationship with music. Researchers at the University of Amsterdam have said

The ability to follow a beat is called beat induction . Neither chimpanzees nor bonobos — our closest primate relatives — are capable of beat induction, which is considered both a uniquely human trait and a cognitive building block of music.

It has long been thought that beat induction is a learned trait, but new research is causing us to think that it is actually inborn. To read the full article click here .
